General Service Pistol Rules Return to Pistol Shoots


All practices will begin with firearms holstered. In FBI-Q pistols will be holstered, chamber empty, hammer down with a loaded magazine in place. In the PP and SP events the competition will begin from the standing alert position, empty pistol pointed down range, elbows into the sides, barrel parallel with the ground. The Range Officer will then give the instruction to load and make ready. In all competitions any revolver used must be fired double action, other than from the 25m stage. Competitors must carry with them sufficient ammunition for the entire course of fire. At the end of each course of fire all firearms will be shown clear and holstered before leaving the point. There will be no re-shoots other than for reasons of target failure.


All firearms used in the Service Pistol Event must be recognized service firearms with an overall length not exceeding 250mm and height not exceeding 150mm. (About 10 inches by 6 inches). Weight without ammunition must not exceed 3lb. Sights may be fixed or adjustable but no optical sights or compensators are allowed. Trigger weight must exceed 1360gm. Any centre fire caliber may be used. Magazine of chamber capacity must be a minimum of six rounds. A secure holster is required, together with at least two spare magazines of speedloaders

Accidental discharge, or any other action which in the opinion of the Range Officer represents a danger to participants, will result in disqualification.




SHOOTS

Response (New). (25 rounds: x 250)

Any firearm can be used not smaller than .380 calibre. Target used will be the FBI or Q9. A total of twenty-five (25) rounds in all for the shoot. These rounds should be taken with you down range at the start of the shoot. A secure holster is required together with pouches for magazines and ammunition. When holstered the pistol will have an empty chamber.

From 7 metres, load with five (5) rounds and holster. When the targets turn to face, Draw, make ready and fire five (5) rounds in six (6) seconds.

From 7 metres, Load and make ready five (5) rounds. Fire one (1) round on each one (1) second exposure of the target, coming from the standing alert position, i.e. elbows into the sides, firearms parallel to the ground.

From 15 metres On a table place empty magazine, five (5) rounds and pistol with slide back. The shooter will start with hands above the shoulders. On face of the targets start to load and fire five (5) rounds in twenty (20) seconds, distance is (15) fifteen metres away.

Stage 5
From 15 metres. On a table place empty magazine, five (5) rounds and pistol disassembled. (Total amount of parts including magazine are five (5) pieces). The shooter will start at the twenty-five (25) metres stage facing the target. On face of the target the shooter will run to the fifteen (15) metres stage, Load and assemble the firearm or assemble or load with five (5) rounds. Fire when ready.


Self-Defense.    (25 rounds: x 250) 

  1.   This course of fire is for personal firearms which have a barrel length not exceeding three inches and weighing not more than 27 oz.  without ammunition.   Any firearm can be used not smaller than .32 . The firearm must hold at least five rounds.  A holster, pouch or pocket is necessary to hold the gun securely.  The target will be the FBI or Q9.

 2.  The course of fire requires a total of 25 rounds over five stages.  At the end of each stage the Range officer will give the order to unload.  The first stage will begin with the firearm loaded and holstered.  Revolvers will have the hammer down.  Pistols will have an empty chamber.  All subsequent stages will begin from the standing alert position after the Range officer has given the order to load and make ready.  Revolvers will be fired double action after the 25m stage.   All 25 rounds must be carried on the person.  The standing alert position requires the competitor to be facing down range, holding the firearm parallel to the ground with elbows against the waist. Both hands may be used to fire the firearm.

From 15 metres.  On the first exposure advance to the 15 metre line, draw, make ready and you may go on aim.  Fire 2 rounds on each subsequent 2 second exposure for a total of 12 rounds.

A total of 30 rounds in all for the shoot.  These rounds should be taken with you down range at the start of the shoot. A secure holster is required together with pouches for magazines and ammunition. When holstered the pistol will have an empty chamber.

U.K. Service Pistol.    (24 rounds: x 120)

A total of 24 rounds in all for the shoot.  These rounds should be taken with you down range at the start of the shoot. A secure holster is required together with pouches for magazines and ammunition. When holstered the pistol will have an empty chamber.

Advancing Man.  (36 rounds: x 180)

 

The course of fire is shot on the Full UK  target or the Advancing Man target and uses a three second target exposure with an edge time of five seconds. The shoot requires 36  rounds in total, each stage needing six rounds.  A secure holster is required together with pouches for magazines and ammunition. When holstered the pistol will have an empty chamber. On completion of the course of fire unload, clear the firearm and show clear to the range officer.  Make the firearm safe and return it to the holster before leaving the firing line.  There will be re-shoots only if there is target failure. All shooters should observe basic safety procedures.  After each series of shots clear all firearms and holster while facing targets. The decision of the Range officer is final. Any firearm can be used not smaller than .380 calibre.

From 7 metres.  Loaded with a magazine of six rounds and holstered, there will be three two second exposures of the target.  On the first exposure of the target draw, make ready and fire one round.  Adopt the standing alert position.  On the next two second exposure of the target fire two rounds and return to the standing alert position.  On the third two second exposure of the target fire three rounds.  Clear the firearm, reload with a magazine of eight rounds and holster.

From 7 metres.  Turn right and face 90 degrees away from the target, arms out at shoulder height, hands clasped together.  There will be two three second exposures of the target.  On the first exposure turn to face the target with arms out stretched and hands clasped together. When facing the target draw, make ready and fire three rounds.  Adopt the standing  alert  position.  On the second exposure of three seconds fire the remaining  five rounds. Clear the firearm, reload with a magazine of three rounds and holster.

From 7 metres.  There will be one appearance of the target for seven seconds.  On appearance of the target draw, make ready and fire three rounds.  Reload with a second magazine of three rounds and fire the further three rounds. Clear the firearm and holster.

 




Active Shoot.   (40 rounds: x 400)

A total of 40 rounds in all for the shoot.  These rounds should be taken with you down range at the start of the shoot. Extreme Pistol.  (26 rounds: x 130)

 

The course of fire is shot on the Full UK  target or the Advancing Man target. The shoot requires 26  rounds in total. A secure holster is required together with pouches for magazines and ammunition. When holstered the pistol will have an empty chamber. On completion of the course of fire unload, clear the firearm and show clear to the range officer.  Make the firearm safe and return it to the holster before leaving the firing line.  There will be re-shoots only if there is target failure. On the second 8 second exposure shoot five rounds weak hand only unsupported. Reload transfer to the strong hand and make ready, assume the standing alert position. On the third 8 second exposure shoot 5 rounds strong hand only unsupported.
